LAHORE: Four graduates of Lahore’s Dar Hockey Academy have been included in Pakistan’s national Under 18 squad bound for the Asia Cup in Kakamigahara, Japan (May 29–June 6). The selection continues a remarkable run: since 2010 every Pakistani age group hockey team has featured at least one Dar Academy player.

The Lahore based Dar Hockey Academy is credited with scouting talent nationwide and providing free board and lodging for outstation players in its hostel, alongside world class coaching and facilities. The academy’s nationwide talent pipeline has become a consistent feeder for Pakistan’s junior teams.

The players in the squad are Asam Haider (Captain), Hassan Akbar (Vice Captain) both from Kot Radha Kishan, Kasur. Abdullah Awan (Fort Abbas, Bahawalnagar), Muhammad Usman (Sangla Hill, Nankana Sahib).

The inclusion of two leaders from the academy — Asam Haider as captain and Hassan Akbar as vice captain — underlines Dar Academy’s influence on youth leadership and player development.

Academy officials say the selections reward years of structured coaching and the support system that enables talented youngsters from smaller districts to compete at the continental level.

Pakistan’s Under 18 side will open its Pool B campaign against China on May 30, followed by matches against Malaysia (May 31) and Bangladesh (June 3). Performances at the Asia Cup will be closely watched as part of the pathway for future age group and senior national selections.

“The quartet’s presence in the travelling party highlights the continuing role of private academies in Pakistan’s hockey ecosystem and reinforces calls for sustained investment in grassroots programmes that identify and nurture talent from across the country,” emphasized academy official.
