LAHORE:The Punjab government has announced financial assistance for parents of children under 18, linked to withdrawing children from labour.
Under the initiative, children will be enrolled in education and training programmes once financial support is provided. Task committees have been formed to end child labour and will prepare a comprehensive action plan. The govt has also sought proposals to amend existing child labour laws.
The committees have been assigned over 20 tasks, including digital mapping and geo-tagging of child labour cases, establishing a helpline, and setting up rehabilitation centres. A socio-economic survey will also determine monthly stipends for parents to support their children’s education and development.
