LAHORE:Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman has directed the authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on kite flying, while also strengthening price control mechanism and accelerating action against ‘organised begging’.
The directives were issued during a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed measures related to enforcement of the kite-flying ban, prevention of begging, price control and traffic management.
The chief secretary instructed deputy commissioners to ensure the availability of flour, Roti and other essential food items at officially notified rates. To improve monitoring of essential commodity prices, the meeting decided to increase the number of price control magistrates.
He ordered the implementation of a new traffic management plan in major cities, noting that stricter enforcement of traffic laws had already led to a reduction in road accidents. He reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against violations of the kite-flying ban, directing the police and district administrations to take firm action to ensure effective enforcement. On the issue of beggars, the chief secretary ordered that the ongoing campaign be intensified and called for the proposal of strict punishments for organised groups exploiting women and children for begging.
