50th National Snooker Championship gets underway in Karachi

KARACHI: The NBP 50th National Snooker Championship 2026 commenced on Tuesday at the NBP Sports Complex, Clifton, with several exciting matches and impressive century breaks.

In one of the key encounters, Hasnain Akhtar of Sindh upset fifth seed Muhammad Naseem Akhtar of Punjab by 4–2. Hasnain showed strong composure after dropping the opening frame to seal a memorable victory.

The highlight of the day was provided by Muhammad Asif (NBP), who produced a remarkable performance by compiling two century breaks, while Sohail Shahzad (Sindh) also registered one century break in his match.

Other results of the day were as follows: Shahid Aftab (Punjab) defeated Daniyal Shahzad (Islamabad) 4–0 with frame scores of 50–12, 74(53)–20, 63–8, 87(52)–10. Mudassar Yaqoob (KP) beat Muhammad Yousaf (Balochistan) 4–0 with frames 54–42, 87–29, 71–64, 52–41.

Muhammad Sajjad (NBP) overcame M. Farhan (Punjab) 4–2, winning the frames 62–7, 60–18, 50–74, 71–58, 45–68, 62–39. M. Faizan (Punjab) edged out Shah Khan (KP) 4–3 in a closely fought contest with frame scores of 25–60, 67–66, 63–53, 76–58, 0–78, 35–65, 73–42. Awais Ullah Munir (Punjab) defeated Shahzaib Rafique (KP) 4–1, highlighted by a superb 79-break, with frames 98(79)–18, 34–70, 96(51)–1, 58–24, 77(77)–1.

Zulfiqar A. Qadir (Sindh) beat M. Shahbaz (Punjab) 4–3 with frames 42–63, 72–38, 65–0, 42–66, 69–46, 7–73, 82–25. Muhammad Asif (NBP) dominated Barjeesh Khan (Islamabad) 4–0, registering two magnificent 130 breaks and one 82 break, with frames 136(130)–0, 97(82)–0, 130(130)–0, 71(70)–6.

Asjad Iqbal (NBP) beat Aftab Baig (Balochistan) 4–1 with frames 70–14, 52–53, 72–14, 61–40, 65–9. Ali Hamza (Sindh) defeated Ghulam Abbas (Balochistan) 4–0 with frames 66–22, 62–46, 79–33, 49–48.

Sohail Shahzad (Sindh) outclassed Haris Khan (Sindh) 4–0, including a brilliant 132 break, with frames 72–38, 132(132)–0, 55–39, 64–17. In another match, Ian Mark John (Sindh) defeated Nadir Shah (Sindh) 4–1 with frames 91–43, 67–8, 48–71, 59–17, 82(52)–5.
