LAHORE:A carpet designer of Lahore secured a major international victory at the ICFE Carpet and Floor Covering Expo 2026 in Turkiye.
By winning the Best Mixed Weaving Technique Design Award, city’s craftsmanship has earned significant international acclaim at one of the world’s most prestigious exhibitions for carpet and flooring design. The honour was awarded to Lahore-based designer Sikanderain Hassan, Founder and Creative Director of the city’s prominent design houses, ‘Red Inc’ and ‘Tarkhanom Home.’This achievement marks a historic second consecutive win at the ICFE for the Lahore native.
The winning piece, titled “Fractured Harmony,” was celebrated by the international jury as a masterpiece of Lahori artisanal skill. Entirely handcrafted using traditional methods passed down through generations, the carpet masterfully blends flat weave, sumak, and raised-and-cut pile techniques. It features hand-spun wool and jute, with certain fibers intentionally left in their natural state to create a raw, organic texture. The design artistically captures the tension between fragmentation and renewal, reflecting the sophisticated aesthetic often associated with Lahore’s contemporary art scene.
The ICFE Design Awards are a focal point for the global industry, attracting major manufacturers and trend forecasters. In recognition of this achievement, the Lahore-designed entry is currently being showcased in a dedicated Trend Area at the exhibition’s main entrance. This placement serves as a benchmark for emerging global directions, positioning Lahore-based design as a leader in international floor covering trends.This back-to-back victory significantly strengthens the city’s presence in the global contemporary design landscape.
