ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has strongly condemned the campaign of character assassination of Lahore High Court (LHC) judges on baseless allegations, saying it is against the prestige and dignity of the institution of judiciary.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, PBC Vice-Chairman Tahir Nasrullah Warraich said that a vilification campaign was started when the Judicial Commission of Pakistan had convened a meeting for the confirmation of LHC additional judges. He viewed that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) takes action on petty issues and is silent on this campaign against judges.

He demanded that the NCCIA should take immediate action against vloggers and others who are part of the campaign and an FIR be registered against all of them.

He said that LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum and other judges are very competent, upright and independent and their integrity is above any doubt and have great respect amongst the legal fraternity and public.

He said the PBC always supported and struggled for the supremacy of the Constitution, Rule of Law and independence of judiciary, as enshrined in the Constitution.

“This council and the legal fraternity will never permit anyone to succeed in their nefarious designs and motives to target the independent, competent and upright judges,” he added.

He asked the federal government and others to take immediate action against persons involved.
