ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s Embassy in Tehran have, in view of the ongoing situation in Iran, on Saturday issued a travel advisory for Pakistani citizens residing inside Iran and cautioning those that wish to visit the country.

“Our nationals are kindly requested to adhere to the advisory. We will be very grateful for your cooperation and understanding and will do our best to assist you,” said Ambassador Mudassir Tipu in a message on ‘X’, at a time when there is a near-total internet blackout.

The advisory urged Pakistani citizens, “For their safety and security, Pakistani nationals are advised to avoid all unnecessary travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until conditions improve.”

Violent protests continue inside the Islamic republic for two weeks now, where dozens have reportedly been killed, including members of law enforcement. The protests initially started with crowds coming out against the high cost of living and high inflation.

Pakistanis living in Iran have also been advised to exercise “extreme caution, remain vigilant, minimise non-essential travel, and stay in regular contact with the Pakistani missions” in Tehran, Zahidan and Mashhad. These are also some of the cities where protests continue.

However, presently there has been no update on evacuating Pakistanis who wish to leave, and Pakistani diplomats are all present at the different missions.

Contact numbers for Pakistani citizens have also been issued: Embassy of Pakistan in Iran (Tehran) +98-21-66-9413-88/89/90/91 (landline), +98-21-66-9448-88/90 (landline) and +98 910 764 8298 (mobile); Zahidan: +98 54 33 22 3389 (landline) and +98 90 46 14 5412 (mobile); Mashhad: +98 910 762 5302 and +98 937 180 7175.
