ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen-Pakistan (TTAP) leaders Thursday left for Lahore on a three-day visit as part of their street mobilisation campaign with regard to the second anniversary of February 8, 2024 general elections.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the alliance’s chairman, and Vice Chairman Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri led the convoy via GT Road. In his statement, Achakzai emphasised that their bid was not to conquer anyone, abuse or throw stones. He underlined that whoever wanted the supremacy of Constitution and peace should stand with them. “We have given a protest call for February 8, and we have started a movement. We are moving forward peacefully and within the constitutional limits,” Achakzai explained.

Meanwhile, the PTI strongly condemned the ‘use of brute force and reign of terror’ unleashed by the Punjab government against the peaceful TTAP convoy en route to Lahore, including the unlawful detention of its senior leadership and workers, as well as the deliberate smashing of convoy vehicles’ windows, demanding immediate release of the illegally detained people.

In a statement, the party slammed what it alleged the fascist government for its use of force against a peaceful convoy and unlawful detention of senior PTI leader Amjad Niazi and Raja Mustafa Haider, son of Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, near Gujrat. The party condemned the arrests as a blatant violation of the Constitution and rule of law, describing them as a deplorable example of the misuse of state power.

The party added that vehicles without proper number plates, along with police vans, had been surrounding and intimidating the convoy. “Near Gujrat, nearly 30 convoy vehicles had their windows smashed, and the participants were beaten up. We demand immediate release of Raja Mustafa Haider, Amjad Niazi and all other detained workers and leaders, and call on the authorities to allow the peaceful convoy to continue its constitutional activities without any obstruction,” the PTI added.
