The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has warned that the country is facing a deep political, economic and constitutional crisis, and asserted that state institutions have lost their credibility and public trust.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s provincial office in Karachi, MWM Chairman and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said the National Assembly and Senate had been rendered ineffective, particularly after the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, which he said had further eroded confidence in the system.

He stated that the people of Pakistan were being crushed under soaring inflation and unemployment, while law and order continued to deteriorate. Referring to Punjab, he alleged that hundreds of people had been killed in police encounters and thousands of innocent citizens were languishing in jails.

Abbas stressed that Pakistan urgently needed a government formed on the basis of the public mandate. He said the MWM was ready for dialogue to pull the country out of the crisis, but on condition that the dialogue took place on fundamental issues related to democracy, Constitution and public rights.

Expressing concern over Karachi’s infrastructure, he offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives after falling into open manholes, and demanded immediate facilities and development for the country’s economic hub.

He was of the view that corruption was being treated like a ‘routine obligation’ by the rulers, and called for strict accountability across the board. On foreign affairs, the MWM leader condemned US President Donald Trump’s actions against the elected president of Venezuela and his family, calling them illegal. He criticised the prime minister for nominating ‘an alleged kidnapper’ for the Nobel Peace Prize, terming it morally indefensible.

He also accused Trump of violating the US Constitution and condemned threats against Iran, alleging that Iran was deceived through negotiations and later targeted via Israeli attacks, which, he claimed, failed within 12 days.

Abbas rejected what he described as ‘false and malicious propaganda’ against Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, stating that claims about him fleeing Iran were baseless lies spread by global imperial powers. He said Khamenei had defeated his adversaries in every conflict and followers of Imam Hussain (AS) had always stood firm against oppression.

He said Israel had failed to achieve its objectives in Gaza and had been unable to defeat Hamas despite full backing from the United States. According to Abbas, American and Israeli ambitions had failed across the region. Condemning the Peca law, he termed it an attack on freedom of expression. He announced that under the banner of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan, a nationwide protest would be held on February 8, which would also be observed as a black day across the country and internationally.
