Afzal Ahmed’s book on cricket records “ Cricket Pakistan Chronicle” launches

KARACHI: Pakistan’s renowned former Test cricketer Sadiq Muhammad has said that banker Afzal Ahmed is a man who loves game of cricket and its statistics too much. After years of hard work, research and love for cricket, he has compiled a wonderful book, in which the historical documents of Pakistan cricket have been compiled with great effort and skill.

He expressed these views while addressing the launch ceremony of Afzal Ahmed’s book “Pakistan Cricket Chronicle” under the auspices of the Library and Literacy Committee of Karachi Gymkhana. He said that the story of cricket and its evolution has been narrated in this book in a very attractive and comprehensive manner.

Former Test cricketer Shoaib Muhammad said that this book containing cricket records is undoubtedly a comprehensive encyclopedia and state-of-the-art work of Pakistan cricket. Renowned international cricket commentator and first-class cricketer Qamar Ahmed said that Afzal Ahmed has collected cricket records with great effort, dedication and honesty.

His book is the first and unique effort of its kind on cricket not only in Pakistan but also in the world. He congratulates Afzal Ahmed on writing such a fine and researched book. Dr. Salman Farooqui, Executive Director of Liaquat National Hospital, said that Afzal Ahmed has about 98 percent of the records of Pakistan cricket. Now it is his responsibility to preserve these valuable records and books so that future generations can also benefit from them.

On this occasion, former banker and writer of the book Afzal Ahmed said that his love for cricket began in 1968, when he was studying in a school on Clayton Road, Karachi. During that time, he bought Sports Times magazine from an old bookstore near the school and started reading it, which instilled a deep interest in cricket in his heart.

He said that although he never played cricket regularly, cricket has been his lifelong passion. “Pakistan Cricket Chronicle” is the culmination of his lifelong hard work, studies and memoirs, which covers the complete history of Pakistan cricket.

Dr. Saad Shafqat, Dr. Salman Farooqui, renowned journalist Ehsan Qureshi and other esteemed personalities also addressed the event and highlighted the importance and usefulness of the book.
