LHC benches decide 173,000 cases in 2025

RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) decided 173,000 cases during the year 2025, which is 16 percent more than the new cases filed in the previous year. According to the statistics, a total of 145,748 new cases were filed with all the benches of the court and more than 173,000 cases were decided during the year.

Out of 173,000 cases, the principal seat decided 92,505 cases, followed by 17,948 cases decided by the Rawalpindi Bench, 44,145 cases decided by the Multan Bench, and 18,415 cases decided by the Bahawalpur Bench.

On the special instructions of Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Justice Ms. Alia Neelam, a fast-track policy will be adopted for the tax cases along with civil and criminal cases, and special division benches have been formed to hear the tax cases.

According to the statistics of the year 2025, 6,000 tax cases were decided by the Lahore High Court, which is a unique record of its kind.

According to the spokesperson for the high court, owing to the leadership, effective case management reforms and high judicial performance of Chief Justice Ms. Alia Neelam, the highest number of decisions — more than 173,000 — were made in the history of the Lahore High Court in a year.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Ms. Alia Neelam has appreciated the excellent judicial performance and said transparency in the judicial system and timely provision of justice were the top priorities of the Lahore High Court.

She said the speed of decisions had increased due to the use of automation and information technology in the judicial system, while lawyers and litigants had welcomed the record court decisions.

She said public confidence in the judiciary was increasing due to the judicial and case management and digital reforms implemented on her instructions.

On the other hand, Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Miss Alia Neelam has approved the promotion of 14 additional district and sessions judges from across Punjab, including Rawalpindi and Jhelum, to sessions judge.

The decision has been taken on the recommendations of the Performance Evaluation Committee, for which Registrar High Court Amjad Iqbal Ranjha issued a formal notification.

Under notification number D&SJs/RHC/136, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Tariq Ayub from Rawalpindi has been promoted to the post of Sessions Judge. Similarly, Shafqatullah Khan and Hamid Mahmood Khan from Gujranwala, Mubashir Nadeem Khan from Alipur, Iftikhar Ahmed from Shakargarh, Mumtaz Ahmed and Ashfaq Ahmed from Multan, Khalid Saeed Wattoo from Sialkot, Muhammad Riaz from Okara, Muhammad Saeed Rafique from Jhelum, Imtiaz Nadeem from Pindi Gheb, Muhammad Yasir Nadeem Razzaq from Lahore, Syed Azhar Ali Jafri from Gujarat and Additional District and Sessions Judge Atiq-ur-Rehman from Sargodha.
