More than half of Pakistanis hopeful about 2026: survey

At global level, 37% expressed optimism, while in Pakistan this figure stood at 51% for the new year

ISLAMABAD: More than half of Pakistanis are hopeful the New Year will be a year of improvement and that the country’s economic situation will also get better.

This has been revealed in a Gallup Pakistan survey in which 1,000 people from across the country participated. The survey was conducted in 60 countries worldwide, including Pakistan.

In response to question, “Will the new year be better than 2025?”, 51pc of Pakistanis expressed hope for improvement and said conditions would get better.

Twenty percent said the situation would worsen, 10pc believed conditions would remain the same as last year, and 19pc gave no response.

According to Gallup Pakistan, Pakistanis hoping for improvement in 2026 have surpassed global average. At the global level, 37pc expressed optimism, while in Pakistan this figure stood at 51pc for the New Year.

When asked about improvements in country’s economic conditions, 53pc said economy would improve further, while 27pc expressed concern about difficulties. Ten percent said there would be no change, and another 10pc did not respond. The survey also found 52pc of Pakistanis are hopeful for global peace in the New Year, saying world would be more peaceful in 2026 compared to 2025. In contrast, 21pc expressed pessimism, saying they see increasing turmoil in the world.

Nineteen percent believed there would be no change, while 8pc did not respond.

According to the survey, proportion of Pakistanis dreaming of a more peaceful world is twice as high as that in India and the global average.
