KARACHI: The third day of the first round of the President’s Trophy Grade One tournament produced decisive results, with three of the four matches finishing in emphatic fashion as WAPDA, Ghani Glass and SNGPL stamped their authority.
At the National Bank Stadium, WAPDA wrapped up a comfortable six-wicket victory over KRL after chasing a modest target of 163. Bismillah Khan anchored the chase with a solid 46, ensuring there were no late hiccups. Earlier, KRL had been dismissed for 197 in their second innings, with Mohammad Adil leading the bowling effort by claiming four wickets to keep WAPDA firmly on top.
Ghani Glass wasted little time at the UBL Sports Complex, cruising to a seven-wicket win over OGDCL. Set just 78 to win, they reached the target with three wickets down, Sharjeel Khan contributing 21 runs. The match had swung decisively in Ghani Glass’s favour earlier when OGDCL were bowled out for 127 in their second innings. Asrarullah top-scored with 37, while Afaq Afridi delivered a match-winning spell, picking up five wickets for 30 runs to finish with an impressive nine-wicket haul in the match.
SNGPL produced the most dominant performance of the day at the National Bank Sports Complex, defeating Sahir Associates by an innings and 151 runs. Following on, Sahir Associates were dismissed for 288 in their second innings despite a fighting century from Mohammad Basit, who scored 107. Asim Ali Nasir added 71 and Mohammad Faiq chipped in with 54, but Athar Mahmood’s five-wicket haul for 66 runs ensured SNGPL wrapped up the contest in commanding style.
