The Democrats Panel once again asserted its dominance in the Karachi Press Club (KPC) annual elections for 2026, achieving a remarkable 18th consecutive clean sweep and dashing the hopes of rival panels and independent candidates.
Polling was held on Saturday from 9am to 5:30pm, during which a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere prevailed at the Press Club premises. A large number of members actively participated in the democratic process, reflecting strong engagement by the journalistic community.
The election results were formally announced at the Karachi Press Club by Dr Tauseef Ahmed Khan, head of the Election Committee.
According to the official results, Fazal Jamili of the Democrats Panel was elected President after securing 536 votes, while Aslam Khan won the post of Secretary with 493 votes.
For other key offices, Irshad Khokhar was elected Vice President with 480 votes, Imran Ayub secured the position of Treasurer with an impressive 622 votes, and Farooq Sami was elected Joint Secretary after obtaining 556 votes.
In the elections for the seven seats of the Governing Body, Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Akhtar Hussain Soomro, Sheema Siddiqui, Faryal Arif, Javed Saba, Syed Fareed Alam and Javed Mehr emerged victorious.
The contest was held among the Democrats Panel, the Democrat Panel, the Green Panel, as well as independent candidates.
Out of 1,369 registered voters of the Karachi Press Club, 1,011 members exercised their right to vote, marking a high turnout and underscoring the continued relevance and vitality of the KPC’s electoral process.
The sweeping victory further consolidates the Democrats Panel’s longstanding influence within the Karachi Press Club and reflects the confidence reposed in its leadership by the majority of the club’s members.
