PESHAWAR: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has recovered a large quantity of drugs and other contraband items and arrested several accused in operations conducted in different districts of the province.

As per the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and on the directives of Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan, the Excise Police Malakand Region while acting on a tip-off, carried out an operation against a drug peddling group in the Pull Chowki area.

During a raid on land located behind a private restaurant and after a chase, the accused Iftikhar was arrested on the spot and180 grams of hashish were recovered from his possession.

A case was registered against the accused under the Anti-Narcotics Act and other relevant sections, while further legal proceedings was underway.

Similarly, the Excise Police Khyber district foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics through a female carrier near Takhta Baig graveyard.

Under the supervision of Station House Officer (SHO) Majid Hussain and Inspector Yousaf Jamal, along with a lady constable and other personnel, a search operation was conducted that resulted in the recovery of 2,400 grams of hashish.

The accused woman was arrested on the spot and a case was registered at the Excise Police Station, Khyber.

Moreover, Excise Intelligence Peshawar, acting on credible information, conducted a raid near Motorway Park, where 950 grams of charas were recovered from a female smuggler. The accused was taken into custody and a case was registered and further investigation was in progress in the Excise Police Station, Peshawar.

It may be mentioned that Excise Police, Peshawar, have also intensified its crackdown against illegal cigarettes in different parts of the city, seizing a large quantity of non-tax-paid and unstamped cigarettes during separate operations.

The Excise Department reiterated its resolve to continue strict enforcement against narcotics and other illegal activities in line with the provincial government’s policy to safeguard public health and purge the menace of narcotics from society.
