PPP’s Agha Shahbaz wins PS-9 Shikarpur by-election

SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Agha Shahbaz Khan Durrani emerged victorious in the by-election for Sindh Assembly constituency PS-9 (Shikarpur-III), according to unofficial results announced on Sunday.

Agha Shahbaz secured 72,975 votes, placing first by a wide margin, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUIF) candidate Rashdullah Shah Amrooti came second with 12,834 votes.

The by-election was held under strict security measures, with more than 3,000 police personnel and youth volunteers deployed across the constituency to ensure a smooth and peaceful polling process. Senior officials, including DIG Larkana Nasir Aftab and SSP Shikarpur Shahzeb Chachar, visited various polling stations to review security arrangements and ensure strict implementation of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s code of conduct.

The commissioner Larkana, DC Shikarpur, and other senior officers also monitored the polling process.

According to the Election Commission, a total of 178 polling stations were established for the by-election, including 49 male, 49 female, and 80 combined polling stations. Of these, 54 were declared highly sensitive, 84 sensitive, and 40 normal.

The constituency has a total of 277,792 registered voters, comprising 148,310 men and 129,482 women. Polling concluded without any major untoward incident.
