Islamabad:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that Islamabad and adjoining areas are likely to remain cold and overcast in the days ahead.

However, rain and snowfall are expected in upper areas including Chitral, Swat and Khyber until December 18. Smog and fog are likely to hit the plains of Sindh and Punjab. According to the PMD, in northern districts of Balochistan, the weather will remain severely cold.

As traffic flow on mountainous routes could be affected and roads closed at some places, people are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to hilly areas. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority has issued an advisory for snowfall and adverse weather conditions until December 18.

According to the advisory, rain and snowfall are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and several parts of Balochistan. As weather conditions worsen, authorities expect fog intensity to increase, particularly during morning and night hours.

Meanwhile, plains are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. In contrast, mountainous and upper regions are expected to experience snowfall. The NDMA warned of heavy snowfall in Kohistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, higher areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and mountainous regions of Azad Kashmir. Due to snowfall, traffic flow on mountain roads may be disrupted. In some areas, road closures are also possible.
