KARACHI: Pakistan is to host the second edition of World under-23 Squash Championship in 2027. Pakistan hosted the first edition of this championship in April in Karachi. Now, the World Squash Federation has allotted the second edition too to Pakistan.
“We had sponsors for the first edition but the championship was hosted by Sindh Squash in Karachi. Now, we will think about hosting the second edition,” said M Mansoor, an official of Punjab Squash Association, while talking to ‘The News’.
It is to be noted that Pakistan’s Noor Zaman won this inaugural World U-23 Squash Championship by defeating Kareem El Torkey from Egypt with the score of 5-11, 12-14, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6.
Zaman with this win qualified for the PSA World Championships in May where he lost in the second round. “The first edition was hosted by President SSA Adnan Asad but it seems he would not be hosting the second edition since he has been removed from the position of Vice President of Pakistan Squash Federation,” said a source. Besides, the source added, Qamar Zaman who was tournament director in the first edition of this championship, has also quit as Senior Vice President of PSF.
