KARACHI: Mehtab Ali, a young singer from Ghotki who secured a place among the Top 16 emerging stars in the Pakistan Idol 2025 Gala Round, received a warm and emotional welcome from friends and family upon returning home.
Belonging to an extremely poor household, Mehtab has overcome immense challenges through his sweet voice, hard work, and unwavering passion, turning his dreams into reality. After crossing several hurdles, Mehtab finally reached Sukkur to give his audition and was selected for Pakistan Idol, bringing pride to his hometown.
Speaking to Geo News, he said his love for singing came from watching his father perform. “Wherever my father went, I would go with him.
I would sit in his lap, watching him sing, and that’s how the passion for music grew in me,” he shared. Mehtab revealed that although he received the call for Pakistan Idol, he had nothing—no resources, no support—to travel.
“It was the time of the floods. Our home was destroyed. My hope of ever performing on such a platform was nearly gone,” he said. Performing before legendary artists on a grand stage had always been his dream, and seeing Rahat Fateh Ali Khan right in front of him made him extremely nervous.
“But now, it feels like the dream is finally coming true,” he added. Mehtab’s father told Geo News that his son would accompany him to local events despite being told not to.
Singing loudly around the house and practicing music daily were a part of Mehtab’s routine from a young age. His mother expressed overwhelming joy at seeing her son reach such a remarkable stage in his journey.
His elder brother, Pervaiz Ali, said he was brought to tears when he saw Mehtab perform on TV for the first time on Pakistan Idol, knowing the amount of struggle and effort behind that voice. Mehtab is now preparing for the next round, practicing day and night with his father to ensure that he mesmerizes the audience once again with his talent.
