SUKKUR: Nine robbers were killed and two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and four personnel were injured during a joint operation of police and Rangers in Shikarpur.
According to SSP Shikarpur, Shahzeb Chachar, police raided the Manchar Sheikh area after receiving intelligence-based information about the presence of criminals who had robbed Rs2.6 million from citizens.
Upon seeing the raiding party, the suspects opened fire ensuing an encounter that resulted in the deaths of nine robbers and causing injuries to DSP Garhi Yasin Zahoor Soomro and DSP City Paras Bakrani, along with four other police personnel.
The operation was still ongoing, with a large police force deployed at the scene using armoured vehicles and drone surveillance. All the injured police officers were transported to Ziauddin Hospital, Sukkur. DIG Sukkur Faisal Abdullah Chachar visited the hospital.
The police said that the gang was involved in kidnappings for ransom, drug trafficking, robberies, and other heinous crimes.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah paid tributes to police officers and personnel injured during the operation and directed the police to intensify actions against dacoit gangs and ensure full restoration of law and order in the district. The chief minister expressed solidarity with DSPs Paras Bakrani and Zahoor Soomro, and four injured personnel, conveying his prayers for their speedy recovery.
