Naqvi vows to make PSL world’s leading league

LAHORE: The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) staged its first-ever international roadshow at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, marking a bold step in its ambition to become the world’s premier cricket league.

Addressing the event, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi declared that the board and PSL management are working together to elevate the competition to global prominence, highlighting the depth of talent in Pakistan’s national cricket setup.

Naqvi invited new investments into the league, assuring that bids for PSL franchises will be transparent and open. He also announced plans to build a new international-standard cricket stadium in Islamabad, host musical concerts for fans to keep stadiums vibrant during the off-season, and conduct another cricket roadshow in New York. In addition, the PCB will soon launch a dedicated OTT platform for PSL content, expanding digital access for fans worldwide.

PSL CEO Salman Naseer expressed satisfaction over the successful London event, noting that the league continues to promote Pakistan cricket while offering fans quality entertainment. He confirmed that bids for two new team franchises are now open, emphasizing PSL’s role in bringing cricket closer to communities across the country.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram praised the PSL for providing opportunities to local talent and delivering entertainment for fans, while Ramiz Raja added that the league enables young players to compete with international stars, strengthening Pakistan’s global cricket profile.

Star batter Babar Azam reflected on his own journey, crediting senior players for guiding him like “academies” and sharing invaluable experience with younger teammates. He described the PSL’s successful seasons as a major achievement for Pakistan cricket. ­
