ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to upgrade cricket facilities and promote the sport in the federal capital.

The MoU was formalised during a meeting between CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa and PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed. Senior CDA officials, including Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, and the Director Sports and Culture, also attended.

Under the agreement, a talent hunt programme will be launched to promote cricket among youth in Islamabad, offering equal opportunities for boys and girls. The programme aims to ensure transparent player selection and provide international-standard coaching and training.

The PCB will also support the CDA in upgrading two cricket grounds in the city. PCB COO Sameer Ahmed said the board was fully committed to collaborating with CDA to develop cricket in the capital and identify emerging talent.

CDA Chairman Randhawa said the authority was implementing comprehensive measures to transform Islamabad into a hub for both national and international sports. Alongside cricket, efforts are underway to upgrade facilities for hockey, football and other sports. He added that revenue generated from sports facilities would be reinvested in improving sports infrastructure.

A women’s cricket team for Islamabad is also being formed to encourage female participation in the sport.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both organisations to promoting cricket and expanding healthy recreational activities for the youth, with the broader goal of developing Islamabad into a state-of-the-art sports and recreation centre.
