SUKKUR: A tribal jirga in Shikarpur settled a long-standing blood feud between two groups, imposing a total fine of approximately Rs55.7 million (5 crore 57 lakh rupees) on the warring sides whose dispute resulted in 17 murders and left 15 others injured.

As per reports, the jirga was led by Dr Ibrahim Jatoi, Mir Abid Khan Jatoi and Syed Shaman Ali Shah at the Jatoi House, Shikarpur, on Tuesday.

After recording the statements of the elites of the feuding clans, it made a patch-up between the people of both the tribes.

The jirga proved 10 murders of the Hakim Badani Jatoi group against the people of Ali Bahar Shar group and fined Rs34.6 million, while it proved seven murders of the Shar clan against the Badani Jatoi group and fined Rs22.9 million. The jirga fixed Rs2.5 million compensation for each murder.

The jirga also fined Badani Jatoi Rs5 million for the violation of the jirga date.

The jirga bound them to pay the fine amount to each other in three installments.

The elites of both the clans accepted the jirga decision and embraced each other with a pledge to restore peace in Shikarpur.

The conflict between Ali Bahar Shar and Hakim Badani Jatoi groups had started four years ago after the killing of Jalal Shar in Sukkur, which claimed 17 lives and left 15 injured over a karo-kari case.
