HYDERABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Hyderabad Division on Saturday staged a ‘Salam Benazir Rally’ aimed at paying rich tribute to the martyrs of democracy, including Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Shaheed Mir Murtaza Bhutto, Shaheed Shahnawaz Bhutto and Begum Nusrat Bhutto.

During the rally, party leaders and workers offered prayers and laid floral wreaths at the shrines of the late leaders.

The rally began from the Super Highway in Jamshoro and passed through Sehwan, Dadu, Mehar, and Larkana before culminating at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.

Along the way, district presidents, general secretaries, and hundreds of workers joined the procession, receiving a warm welcome at every stop.

Speaking at the rally, Sindh PPP President Nisar Khuhro strongly criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s remarks regarding the controversial canal project, terming them a violation of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) decision and an insult to the constitutional forum.

He demanded that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif take notice of Maryam Nawaz’s statement and clarify the party’s stance. “The CCI has already rejected and buried the controversial canal project. The chief minister of Punjab cannot override the constitutional forum. The CCI’s unanimous decision is that unless all provinces agree, no canal project can be initiated. Sindh will never accept any such controversial project,” Khuhro asserted.

Addressing the media at Sehwan, PPP Hyderabad Division President Senator Aajiz Dhamrah said that the PML-N’s traditional politics has now turned into open hostility. Maryam Nawaz is conspiring against her uncle Shahbaz Sharif’s government, and if Sindh takes to the streets, the PML-N will have no space left, he said.

The water of Sindh is not anyone’s personal property; it belongs to the people, and no one can snatch it. The PPP is a coalition partner at the federal level but not subservient to anyone, Dhamrah added.

He said that the Salam Benazir Rally was not only a tribute to the martyrs but also a clear message that the PPP continues to live in the hearts of the people and will resist any conspiracy against democracy.

Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser and PPP Hyderabad Division General Secretary MPA Gianchand Essrani remarked that the rally was more than a political activity; it was a solemn tribute to the martyrs of democracy.

Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for the people of this country, he said, adding that today, we stand united to carry forward their mission. The PPP has always spoken for the poor, the labourers, the farmers, and minorities. We have given representation to every segment of society and worked for their rights. “Benazir Bhutto’s dream was of a strong, prosperous, and democratic Pakistan, and InshaAllah we will fulfill that dream,” he said.

The rally saw massive participation from across the division, including representatives from the Women’s Wing, Youth Wing, PSF, Lawyers Forum, Doctors Forum, and Engineers Forum.

The rally concluded at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, where leaders and workers offered prayers at the shrines of the Bhutto family martyrs and prayed for the security and prosperity of the country.
