HYDERABAD: The Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA) continued its protest outside the Hyderabad Press Club on the second day on Wednesday against cuts in pensions and allowances.

The protesting employees chanted slogans during the protest and accused the government of depriving them of their rights. The alliance has given the call for a five-day lockout of government offices until September 27, bringing routine work to a halt.

Many government offices, schools and colleges in Hyderabad remained closed, with most departments reporting low attendance. Protesters declared that they would not accept any reduction in pensions or allowances, demanding that Sindh employees also be given disparity reduction allowance (DRA) in line with other provinces.

The demonstrators also called for immediate resolution of the longstanding issue of the government employees’ group insurance. The Sindh Employees Alliance has also announced a grand protest in Karachi on October 6.
