HYDERABAD: An anti-corruption court in Hyderabad on Thursday heard a case against Sindh Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Haleem Adil Sheikh pertaining to illegal occupation of government land through forgery.

The hearing was adjourned after witnesses failed to appear before the court. Speaking to the media outside the court, Sheikh strongly criticised the government, saying that fascism, oppression and coercion continued unabated in the country.

He claimed that the PTI founder was facing more than 250 cases, yet he was not required to appear in any of them, while other PTI leaders had been handed long sentences. He lamented that Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub had been sentenced to 40 years in prison, while Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, Sahibzada Hamid Raza and other party leaders had also been awarded punishments. “What kind of law is this where constitutional and legal requirements are not fulfilled?” he asked.

The Sindh PTI president urged the lawyers’ community to rise against what he called the state oppression. He alleged that the PTI founder was being denied treatment by his personal physician, while his wife Bushra Bibi, who was suffering from a wound in her foot, was also not being provided proper medical care and was being forced to drink contaminated water.

He claimed that injustices against Bushra were part of a plan to weaken the PTI founder. The PTI founder and his wife were in jail, his nephew had been sentenced to 10 years, and his sisters were left standing outside courtrooms, Sheikh said, adding that decision-makers must come to their senses and release the PTI founder. He vowed that the PTI’s movement would continue until the release of its founder and the elimination of fascism from the country.
