he first win is always a great morale booster. On Thursday, Pakistan pulled off a historic win to kick off a three-match T20 series in Lahore, ending a seven-year ‘drought’ against Australia.
Pakistani fans of the sport didn’t stop rejoicing. The mood of the spectators at the Gaddafi Stadium was worth documenting. Babar Azam scored a cautious 24 in the first game. Fans were hoping he’d maintain his “aggressive rhythm” in the remaining matches. Pakistani spinners Abrar and Saim showed (in the first game) that they could make life difficult for the Aussies on home turf.
On a funny note, social media has been abuzz about the 3rd Umpire from the first match. During a DRS review for Babar Azam, the umpire’s slightly ‘creative’ use of English while explaining the decision went viral, providing some unexpected laughs for the fans.
This series is important especially since it’s the final warm-up for both teams before the T20 World Cup starts in February.
