The investigation team reportedly arrested the prime suspect in the Surjani Town murder case late on Wednesday night and shifted him to an undisclosed location, although police officials did not officially confirm the arrest.
Police are awaiting key forensic reports in connection with the murders of a woman and her three minor children in Surjani Town’s Sector 7-D. Sources said reports on fingerprints, blood samples collected during the investigation and chemical examination were expected to be received on Thursday (today).
Investigators have also completed geofencing to analyse the movement of mobile phones around the crime scene at the time of the incident. They have obtained the call detail records of suspects to examine their communications and movements, sources said.
A mobile phone belonging to one of the deceased, Mehwish, has also emerged as an important lead in the investigation. Sources said the phone was not found at the crime scene, raising questions about what happened to it after the incident.
Mehwish’s husband also expressed ignorance about the whereabouts of the phone, according to sources. Police suspect that the person or persons involved in the killings may have taken it away.
Investigators are trying to obtain and examine the call data linked to Mehwish’s SIM card. The data could provide clues about contacts made before or after the incident.
Sources said the house where the bodies were discovered had been sealed to preserve the crime scene and prevent any alteration or removal of evidence. The family would not be allowed to use the house until the investigation was completed.
The bodies of the four victims were buried in a local cemetery on Tuesday after completion of the necessary legal and medical formalities.
