ITP processed 160,000 driving licenses in last six months

Islamabad : The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have released its comprehensive six-month performance report, detailing significant advancements in traffic law enforcement, public service delivery, road safety awareness, and traffic management throughout the federal capital.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, underscored that maintaining an organized, uninterrupted traffic flow and protecting the lives and property of citizens remain the department's top priorities through the utilization of modern technology and enhanced citizen service centers.

In the realm of public service delivery, the Islamabad Traffic Police processed driving license applications for more than 160,000 citizens over the last six months. This administrative effort resulted in the issuance of over 66,000 learner permits and the renewal of more than 38,000 existing driving licenses.

Furthermore, the department issued more than 50,000 fresh driving licenses, processed over 3,500 duplicate licenses, and converted or endorsed more than 5,000 licenses during the reporting period.

Simultaneously, the department expanded its community outreach, educating more than 500,000 citizens on road safety and traffic regulations. The dedicated Road Education Program alone reached over 200,000 individuals, while targeted awareness activities in various commercial markets engaged over 54,000 people. The Islamabad Traffic Police also connected with more than 74,000 citizens through its Good Citizen Campaign and over 97,000 individuals via the Friends of Police Program. These initiatives were supplemented by numerous educational seminars hosted at public and private organizations, academic institutions, and other public venues.

Alongside public education, enforcement measures remained stringent, with legal action taken against more than 300,000 traffic violators over the six-month period. Law enforcement statistics reveal that the Islamabad Traffic Police penalized over 47,000 motorists for illegal parking and cited over 25,000 drivers for lane violations.

Additionally, authorities took action against more than 32,000 motorists using unauthorized fancy number plates, over 18,000 wrong-way drivers, and more than 21,000 vehicles involved in overloading violations. Motorcyclist safety was also heavily monitored, resulting in penalties for over 16,000 riders operating without helmets.
