KARACHI: Telecommunications company JazzWorld has launched an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled weather monitoring station at its Islamabad headquarters, marking World Environment Day with a practical step towards its net-zero 2050 target, the company announced.

The station captures real-time hyper-local environmental data, including temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction, and barometric pressure, stated the statement on Wednesday. Supported by AI-driven analytics, the platform is designed to convert weather observations into actionable insights for operational planning and sustainability management.

The launch was attended by Aisha Humera Chaudhry, secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, and Umer Naeem, executive director of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

“Climate adaptation starts with better information,” said Aamir Ibrahim, chief executive officer of JazzWorld. “As weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable, access to accurate, hyper-local data becomes more important than ever.”

JazzWorld said it plans to share data from the station with the Pakistan Meteorological Department to complement national forecasting efforts. The platform is also designed to accommodate future expansion into air quality and ultraviolet radiation monitoring.
