Sindh approves Rs8bn development schemes

KARACHI: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on Wednesday approved 11 development schemes worth Rs8.08 billion aimed at improving infrastructure, roads, drainage, sports facilities and public services across Sindh.

The meeting, held at the Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh, reviewed 17 development schemes relating to infrastructure, local government, universities, housing and public welfare sectors. Six schemes were deferred for further review and refinement.

The approved projects include rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, drainage and nala improvement works, widening of roads in urban and rural areas, development of sports facilities, and improvement of public infrastructure and administrative buildings.

The schemes also focus on strengthening educational and research facilities in different parts of the province.

Among the major projects discussed were road reconstruction and widening schemes in Hyderabad, Qasimabad, Karachi and other districts of Sindh, along with initiatives aimed at improving civic amenities and transportation infrastructure.

The committee stressed the need for timely execution, transparency and strict adherence to quality standards to ensure maximum public benefit from the approved projects.

Chairperson of the Planning and Development Board Najam Shah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving public infrastructure and accelerating sustainable development across Sindh through coordinated planning and efficient implementation of development projects.
