KARACHI: Engro Elengy Terminal Ltd (EETL) said on Friday it had received and started offloading the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo handled in Pakistan, as the country continues to manage energy supply requirements amid global market pressures.
The company said the Q-Flex vessel, carrying more than 210,000 cubic metres of LNG, arrived at the terminal on Wednesday (May 13).Engro Elengy said the operation involved a dual-parcel discharge process and was carried out while managing tidal and draft constraints at Port Qasim.
The company attributed the operation to coordination among Port Qasim Authority, Excelerate Energy, Nakilat, QatarEnergy, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and terminal operations teams.
Pakistan relies heavily on imported LNG to meet domestic gas demand, particularly for power generation and industrial consumption. Market participants have closely monitored LNG supplies in recent years amid price volatility and fluctuations in global energy markets.EETL said the handling of the cargo highlighted the operational capacity of the country’s LNG import infrastructure during a period of elevated energy demand.
