KP lawyers boycott courts

PESHAWAR: Lawyers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa boycotted the court proceedings on the call of the KP Bar Council following the murder of prominent religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees.

The legal fraternity also demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the murder.The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council had announced the boycott in protest against the alleged targeted killing of the religious scholar in Charsadda.

Bar Council vice chairman Asfandyar Khan, members Imad Azam, Syed Mubashir Shah, Babar Khan Yousafzai, Peshawar High Court Bar president Aminur Rehman, general secretary Ashfaq Dawoodzai, Peshawar Bar president Qaiser Zaman, Daniyal Asad Chamkani advocate, Ishaq Qazi, Amjad Tanoli advocate and others condemned the incident and demanded that those involved be immediately exposed, arrested, and given exemplary punishment in accordance with the law.

They said that the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was deteriorating with frequent attacks on prominent persons. They urged the government and law enforcement agencies to take strict action against terrorists and ensure that all those involved in such incidents were dealt with an iron hand.
