LAHORE: The Pakistan national hockey team has commenced its training camp at the National Hockey Stadium, with preparations set to continue until June 5.

The camp marks a crucial step in the team’s roadmap toward the Hockey World Cup and the Asian Games, as the coaching staff focuses on building fitness, sharpening skills, and instilling tactical discipline.

Head coach Manzoor-ul-Hassan confirmed that the shortlisting of players will take place on May 12 and 13, ensuring that only the most promising talent remains in contention. Players currently engaged in international hockey leagues abroad are expected to join the camp by May 15, adding depth and experience to the squad.

The coaching staff has emphasized that this camp is not just about immediate preparation but also about laying the foundation for long-term success. The initial phase of the camp is dedicated to fitness enhancement and tactical drills, with players undergoing rigorous physical conditioning alongside structured practice sessions. Coach Khawaja Junaid highlighted that special attention is being given to technical skill development, ensuring players refine their ball control, passing accuracy, and penalty corner execution.

Beyond the World Cup and Asian Games, the coaching staff expressed optimism that the camp’s intensity will translate into improved performances during the third and fourth stages of the Pro Hockey League, where Pakistan aims to reassert its competitive edge against top-tier opponents.
