KARACHI: In a landmark moment for Pakistani sports, Omar Khalid Hussain has etched his name into the record books by becoming the first golfer from his country to be named to the NCAA Division 1 All-Conference Team.

Representing the University of Evansville, he secured a magnificent third-place finish at the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Men’s Golf Championship held at the Annbriar Golf Club, according to reports received here on Wednesday.

Khalid set the pace early with a scintillating opening round of 7-under-par 65—the second-lowest round in his university’s history—before following up with scores of 72 and 69. His 54-hole performance against an elite collegiate field not only earned him a bronze medal but also a historic spot on the All-Conference roster, a feat never before achieved by a Pakistani national in the highest tier of American collegiate athletics.

This milestone is the latest in a series of global breakthroughs for Khalid. In September 2025, he became the first Pakistani to win a golf title on American soil by clinching the Fendrich Open in Indiana. In that event, he outclassed a professional field, including American pro Zach Williams, by carding a staggering 9-under-par 61 in the opening round and finishing at 14-under par to win by a single stroke.

Khalid’s pedigree is reflected in his extensive international experience, having represented Pakistan at the Asian Games, the World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy), and the British Amateur. His talent was further recognized on the global stage when he was shortlisted for the prestigious Junior Presidents Cup, a first for any golfer from the country.

His rapid ascent was signaled early in his career when he broke into the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) top 10 for players aged 17 and under, becoming the first Pakistani to reach such a standing.
