ISLAMABAD: Newly appointed Pakistan Test team head coach Sarfaraz Ahmad has expressed strong confidence in the form and class of premier batter Babar Azam, terming his current run as the finest phase of his career and a major boost for the national side ahead of the Bangladesh Test series.
Speaking to the media during a training camp, Sarfaraz said Babar’s batting has been a delight for fans and a reassuring sign for Pakistan cricket. “It’s exciting to see Babar in such sublime touch. He is not just scoring runs, he is doing it with authority and elegance. Right now, he appears to be playing the best cricket of his career. The kind of shots he is producing are a treat for anyone who appreciates the game,” he remarked.
The head coach emphasized that Babar’s form carries immense value for Pakistan’s batting strength. “His consistency and technical excellence are vital for the team. When a player of his caliber is in form, it lifts the entire batting unit. It’s a very positive sign for Pakistan cricket, especially with an important Test series ahead.”
Sarfaraz acknowledged the tight schedule Babar faces, with limited time between the PSL final and the Bangladesh tour, but remained optimistic. “He will only get a few days to switch formats, but Babar is experienced enough to make those adjustments. The encouraging aspect is that he is playing technically sound cricket, which will help him transition smoothly into Test matches.”
The coach also highlighted the importance of captain Shan Masood regaining form. “Shan’s return to rhythm is equally significant. As captain, his performance at the top will set the tone for the rest of the batting line-up. His form is crucial for the team’s overall balance.”
Addressing concerns about managing players he has previously shared the dressing room with, Sarfaraz dismissed any complications. “On the contrary, it makes things easier. Having played alongside many of these players, I understand their mindset and strengths better. It allows open communication, and players feel more comfortable approaching me.”
Sarfaraz also voiced optimism about emerging talents, particularly Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal, who have impressed in domestic cricket. “These youngsters have earned their place through consistent performances. They have scored heavily and shown great potential. If given the opportunity, I am hopeful they will rise to the occasion and deliver at the highest level.”
Looking ahead to the Bangladesh series, Sarfaraz expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and prospects. “We have a balanced squad with several in-form players. The boys are putting in hard work during the camp, and I am optimistic about a positive outcome.”
He revealed that preparations are being tailored to replicate conditions expected in Bangladesh. “We have prepared a variety of pitches to simulate both spin-friendly and pace-supporting conditions. Holding the camp in Karachi is also part of that planning to ensure players are well-adjusted.” Providing an update on travel plans, Sarfaraz said players involved in the PSL final will join the squad in Bangladesh on May 4, while the rest of the team will depart a day earlier on May 3.
