MIAMI: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday unveiled plans to redraw his state´s congressional map to help President Donald Trump´s Republican Party secure up to four extra seats in Congress in November´s closely watched midterm elections.
The announcement is the latest salvo in a ferocious redistricting battle launched last year by Republicans across the country. Democrats have responded forcefully in multiple states as both parties jostle for advantage in the congressional election. Out of Florida´s 28 seats in the US House of Representatives, 20 are held by Republicans. Under the new map, that number could rise to 24.
