KARACHI: The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has appointed former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi as sports consultant, as the lender seeks to strengthen its sports development initiatives.
Afridi, best known for holding the record for the fastest One Day International century for 17 years, has joined NBP Sports in an advisory role, the bank said on Wednesday.
Rehmat Ali Hasnie, president of NBP, said the appointment was intended to support the bank’s broader sports programmes and talent development efforts.
“We are honoured to have Shahid Afridi join NBP Sports,” Hasnie said. “His experience and understanding of the game will contribute to our efforts to promote sports development at multiple levels.”
Speaking at a ceremony held at the bank’s head office in Karachi, Afridi said his focus would be on strengthening NBP’s sports programmes and supporting the development of emerging athletes.
He noted the bank’s long-standing involvement in domestic sports and said he aimed to contribute to identifying and nurturing talent through its platform.
NBP has historically been involved in supporting sporting activities and teams in Pakistan as part of its institutional engagement in the sector.
