ISLAMABAD: Global search interest in CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir surged to its highest level on April 8, 2026, according to Google Trends, as international attention focused on Pakistan’s role in mediating a ceasefire between the US and Iran.

Google Trends data showed a sharp rise in queries such as ‘field marshal’, ‘asim munir trump’, and ‘pakistan munir’, indicating widespread global interest in the backchannel diplomacy involving US President Donald Trump and Iranian leadership.

The spike in searches followed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan, that helped de-escalate rising tensions between the two countries. The agreement, informally referred to as the Islamabad Accord was facilitated through coordinated efforts led by CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The surge in search activity was observed across multiple regions. In Israel, interest increased significantly between April 7 and 8 amid regional security concerns and official confirmation of the ceasefire framework. In the United States, search volumes rose rapidly following statements from Donald Trump on social media acknowledging Pakistan’s role in securing the pause in hostilities. China also recorded peak search interest, reflecting its coordination with Pakistan on safeguarding maritime routes. In the United Kingdom, online searches climbed due to attention from the Pakistani diaspora and policy analysts monitoring developments related to the ‘Islamabad Talks’.

Later in the day, countries including Japan and Canada saw increased search activity as global markets responded to the easing of tensions, particularly after the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy transit route.

As the search trend begins to plateau, global attention shifts towards April 10, when delegations from Washington and Tehran are scheduled to arrive in Islamabad.
