ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to identify and remove all individuals who have illegally obtained Pakistani citizenship from the national records.
During a high-level visit to the Nadra headquarters here on Tuesday, the minister emphasised that purging the database of fraudulent entries is a critical priority for maintaining the integrity of national security and documentation.
Naqvi expressed his satisfaction with the authority’s evolution over the past two years, noting significant improvements in public service delivery and operational efficiency. To further modernise the institution, he directed the development of a master plan to transition Nadra operations from rented premises to state-of-the-art, purpose-built offices on government-owned land.
In a move to streamline record accuracy, officials informed the interior minister that the identity cards of hundreds of thousands of deceased individuals have already been cancelled. This clean-up effort extends to digital assets, as the authority is currently coordinating with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block mobile SIM cards registered under the names of the deceased. Furthermore, a strict 30-day timeframe has been established to resolve outstanding issues related to national identity cards to ensure minimal inconvenience for legitimate citizens.
