TEGUCIGALPA: Kristi Noem visited Honduras in her new role as US President Donald Trump’s special envoy for his “Shield of the Americas” regional crime-fighting initiative, after being fired from her position as homeland security chief.

The 54-year-old made the trip on Sunday and met with Honduras’s new right-wing president, Nasry Asfura, he told press afterward. A former congresswoman and governor of South Dakota, Noem was one of the leading faces of Trump’s controversial immigration crackdown since his return to power in January 2025.
