Richie Richardson to make PSL debut as match referee

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the match officials for HBL Pakistan Super League season 11, confirming that Sir Richie Richardson, member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, will make his PSL debut. The tournament runs from March 26 to May 3 in Lahore and Karachi, featuring 44 matches under the official nomenclature HBL PSL.

Richardson, a former West Indies captain and respected ICC referee, has previously officiated in Pakistan, including four Tests and three T20Is between 2017 and 2024. His most notable assignment was the three match T20I series between Pakistan and the World XI at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. His inclusion adds prestige and international credibility to the PSL officiating panel.

The umpiring roster features four members of the ICC Elite Panel: Ahsan Raza (Pakistan), Christopher Gaffaney (New Zealand), Allahudien Palekar (South Africa), and Alexander Wharf (England). They will be joined by Sharfuddoula Saikat (Bangladesh) and Chris Brown (New Zealand), with Palekar and Saikat making their PSL debuts.

Local officials including Asif Yaqoob, Rashid Riaz, Faisal Khan Aafreedi, Nasir Hussain, Zulfiqar Jan, Abdul Muqeet, Alay Haider, Imran Jawed, and Tariq Rasheed will also take charge across the tournament.

Veteran referee Roshan Mahanama, a regular in the PSL since 2017, returns to extend his tally of 71 matches. He will lead the playing control team starting with the opening clash between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen. In that fixture, Wharf and Ahsan Raza will serve as on field umpires, Asif Yaqoob as TV umpire, and Tariq Rasheed as fourth umpire.
