Rawalpindi sewerage system revamp under way at a cost of Rs15bn

Rawalpindi:Under the Chief Minister Punjab Development Program, work is underway on large-scale development projects to improve sewerage and urban infrastructure in Rawalpindi. In this regard, Secretary Housing Punjab Noorul Amin Mengal visited various development projects of Rawalpindi and reviewed the progress.

During the briefing, it was informed that for the first time in Rawalpindi, a project to reconstruct the sewerage system at a cost of Rs15 billion is underway, under which the work on laying 82-kilometers of new sewerage lines is in full swing. In addition, a 2-kilometer long drain will also be constructed for effective drainage of rainwater, while a new disposal station with a capacity of 16 cusecs is also part of the project. According to officials, all development works will be completed by June 2026. The Secretary Housing was also given a detailed briefing about the ongoing development works by WASA officials.

On this occasion, it was informed that a 9-kilometer long water supply scheme on Sixth Road has entered the final stages of completion. The Housing Secretary also reviewed the ongoing development works on Hashmatullah Road and later visited the Chahan Dam.

Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal directed that WASA Rawalpindi should complete the de-silting of Nallah Lai on time and effective steps should be taken to protect the city from urban flooding before the upcoming monsoon.

Housing Secretary directed all officers to ensure personal monitoring of field activities and expedite steps for timely completion of projects. Housing Secretary made it clear that no room for negligence.
