LAHORE: The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) marked AFC Women’s Football Day on International Women’s Day with a vibrant celebration titled “Women in Play: Ramazan Football Festival” at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad.
The event combined festive colour with competitive spirit, showcasing the growing role of women in football across the country. A non-competitive five-a-side tournament was organised to promote visibility and inspire more girls and women to take up football. Five clubs — Legacy, Strikers, Smurfs, Highlanders, and Infinite — participated in the event.
Individual honors were awarded to standout performers: Best Player: Shanzeh Khan (Legacy), Top Scorer: Asra (Strikers), Best Goalkeeper: Aleena Bilal (Smurfs Jr). The festival also saw the presence of current and former players, reinforcing the message that women will continue to play a defining role in shaping the future of football in Pakistan.
PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani emphasized the federation’s commitment to women’s football, noting that Pakistan’s women’s national team will make history by participating in a FIFA Series in Côte d’Ivoire next month. He highlighted that the PFF is actively working to build an ecosystem that ensures women’s football flourishes nationwide.
