ISLAMABAD: Pakistan invited Swedish companies to broaden their investment in the country’s mining and energy sectors, with Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde emphasising opportunities beyond the landmark Reko Diq project.

Ambassador Linde noted that Sweden has maintained strong engagement with Pakistan for the past 77 years, with cooperation spanning multiple sectors including transport, telecommunications, packaging and industry. She highlighted that more than 40 companies are currently members of the Swedish Business Council in Pakistan, reflecting the depth of Swedish commercial presence in the country.

“Sweden possesses extensive expertise in mining, particularly in digitalisation, sustainability, mining services and environmental protection,” Linde said, citing ongoing Swedish involvement in Reko Diq, including connectivity solutions and explosives supply.

Minister Malik lauded Swedish investment and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to developing its natural resource sector. He described Reko Diq as “the jewel of Pakistan’s mining sector” and announced that the upcoming Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026 will showcase expanded investment opportunities, urging Swedish companies to explore ventures beyond existing projects.

Both officials pledged continued engagement to promote investment, technology exchange, and sustainable development in key sectors, reflecting optimism for deeper Pakistan-Sweden cooperation in the years ahead.
