ISLAMABAD: Baloch leader Shafiq Ur Rehman Mengal Wednesday called on President Asif Ali Zardari and announced joining Pakistan People’s Party.
According to announcement of Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday, Senior Vice President of PPP Balochistan Ali Hassan Zehri was also present at the meeting.
PPP leaders from Balochistan including Malik Changez Khan, Kambho Khan Brahmani and Jameel Ahmed Birejo were also accompanying him.
On June 25, 2025, the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had claimed its Majeed Brigade had conducted a suicide attack at the resident of Shafiq Mengal in Quetta but he survived the attack.
A report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan covering year 2023 had stated that Shafiq Mengal had been accused of running ‘death squads’ in the province.
Reacting to an earlier HRCP report, Shafiq Mengal had said it was ironic that there was no evidence and still he was being accused. How could one implicate a politician in a serious case without concrete evidence, Mengal had asked.
