Islamabad:In a major move to align formal learning with global technological trends, the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) will incorporate Artificial Intelligence into its examination framework, say officials.

They said the initiative was part of plans to modernise education system. The officials also said AI was set to become part of the regular curriculum in federal government schools and colleges in the upcoming month of April. They said students from Grade 6 to 8 would have the option to choose between Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence as an elective.

For Grades 9 to 12, AI will be offered as an optional subject, allowing students to align their learning with academic interests and future career goals. Younger students, from nursery to Grade 5, will engage with AI as a non-credit course without formal exams, aimed at nurturing early familiarity with technology in a playful, learning-friendly environment.

Officials said the National Curriculum Council, after extensive consultations with provincial authorities, had finalised a comprehensive curriculum covering Artificial Intelligence and Robotics from Grade 1 through Grade 12.

They said the programme emphasised computational thinking, understanding intelligent systems, robotics, ethical use of technology and strong problem-solving skills, with the goal to equip students with modern technological knowledge and analytical abilities from an early stage, preparing them for the challenges of tomorrow.
