CM’s adult cardiac surgery initiative: Over Rs3bn free treatment facilities for heart patients annually

LAHORE:The 110th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC) was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.

A detailed briefing was given on CM projects in the health sector.Khawaja Salman Rafique said on this occasion that historic and fundamental steps are being taken in the health sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Under the CM’s Adult Cardiac Surgery Programme, free treatment facilities worth more than Rs3 billion will be provided to heart patients annually. All permanent residents of Punjab will be included in the CM’s Adult Cardiac Surgery Programme as per Nadra records.

According to the data, currently about 14,000 patients are on the waiting list in various cardiac institutions. All types of heart operations (adult cardiac surgery) procedures have been included under this programme. The government cardiac institutions will be the primary registration and treatment centres. Referral to private hospitals will be done only through the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). Annual coverage per patient will be Rs1 million. A reserve fund will be allocated for such patients whose prescribed package gets exhausted during treatment or whose complex cases exceed the limit of the standard package.

Under the Chief Minister’s Special Initiative for Transplant Program, 1,344 transplants have been performed so far, including 698 renal transplants, 384 cochlear, 214 liver, 16 bone marrow and 32 corneal transplants. Under the Chief Minister’s Dialysis Program, more than 1.41 million patients have been treated for free dialysis so far.

More than 35,866 patients have been registered for dialysis in hospitals under the CM’s Dialysis Programme so far. Efforts are being made to provide the best health facilities to the public. All resources are being used to provide the best health facilities to the people of Punjab.

Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood has said on this occasion that maximum facilities should be provided to the patients in the empanelled hospitals. Instructions have been given to resolve the problems faced by the patients in the empanelled hospitals on priority basis.
