While Pakistan has every right to be frustrated over terrorism traced to Afghanistan, military escalation should remain the very last option. Cross-border strikes may deepen instability rather than solve the root problem. A better solution lies in strong diplomacy, regional cooperation and economic leverage.

By working with friendly and influential states to pressure Kabul to act against militant groups and by linking regional trade opportunities to improved security commitments, tensions can be reduced without risking wider conflict.
