LAHORE: The Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen have made a major statement ahead of the 11th edition of the Pa kistan Super League (PSL), announcing the signing of Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. The tournament is scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3, marking Maxwell’s debut in the PSL.
Maxwell, renowned as one of Australia’s most explosive performers in the T20 format, brings vast international and franchise experience. In 129 T20Is, he has scored 2,897 runs at a strike rate of 158.42, including 12 half-centuries and five centuries, with a highest score of 145 not out. His off-spin has also yielded 49 wickets, making him a genuine all-round asset.
Across his global franchise career, Maxwell has featured in the Big Bash League (BBL), Indian Premier League (IPL), The Hundred, and the Vitality Blast. In 502 T20 matches, he has amassed 10,986 runs at a strike rate of 154.16, with 58 fifties and eight centuries, alongside 196 wickets. His inclusion is expected to add firepower and balance to the Kingsmen’s squad.
The signing follows the franchise’s earlier announcement of Marnus Labuschagne on February 6, further strengthening their lineup with Australian talent. This PSL season also marks a historic shift in player recruitment. For the first time, the league held a player auction at the Expo Centre, replacing the draft system that had been in place since the PSL’s inception in 2016. The auction was part of the league’s expansion strategy, introducing two new franchises: the Sialkot Stallionz and the Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen. Existing teams were allowed to retain only four players from their core squads, making squad-building a challenging but exciting process.
